Rain Rain go Away...Please Send Spring our Way!
This spring (as soon as the rain move on!) we will begin to play outside again. Some of the students in class have brought up how they know kids in places like homeless shelters who do not have a playground to play at or a yard even and they want to help them. As a class we decided there could be no better way than to do a chalk drive! If at all possible we are asking that each child bring in a package of sidewalk chalk. After we have collected enough we will schedule a trip to the local shelter in which we will give the chalk and take a tour of the place. I think this is a great way for our kids to serve the community and show Christ's love among our fellow townies! I would like to have all the chalk collected my the end of March and then sometime around the middle of April we will make our trip there! I am so blessed to have such wonderful, giving students in my class. Thank you parents for allowing them to be under my care during the day! Keep up your great work of leading these children in the footsteps of Christ!
Guest Speaker
We want to give a big "THANK YOU!" to our guest speaker today! Shep Zitler is a survivor of World War II. He was a soldier and then taken as prisoner of war. He was forced to work at a camp in Austria loading coal for the German soldiers. He told us a lot about his story and helped us wrap up our section on World War II. As an assignment the kids are going to write him letters to tell him thank you and to show appreciation. We are thankful and praise God for his testimony!

Coming Up in April...
This April we will be hosting our second annual 2nd Grade Culture Fair! Last year we had great success with it and the class has voted to do it again! We need parent volunteers to cook up some food and come in and be extra chaperons. If you can do that please fill out the form sent home with your child and return it as soon as possible. Each student will be doing a small report on their heritage and culture and sharing something like food or clothing or music with the class! The culture fair will most likely take a large junk of the day, but i find it helps your student appreciate each other more. So if you would like to help out just let me know and expect the extra questions about your heritage from your young one!My class last year!

School Wide Update
Today we became aware of a small problem and want to let you as parents know before it can grow. A few of the girls in 3rd grade have found lice in their hair. We will be doing a mandatory lice check early next week and will be providing each student with a small amount of lice shampoo until you get a chance to go out and get some. I would highly recommend Lice MD shampoo. I have had lice a few times before and I know for a fact that the shampoo works wonders! Also if you have not had to deal with lice or are unsure of what to do next here is a helpful website to answer all your lice questions!
We will keep you updated on this issue!

Drum Roll Please........
Us teachers have finally been let in on a little secret that I want to share with all of you! This year our science fair theme is..........Magic School Bus! We all remember that lovable show that showed us how yeast worked and the inside of Arnold when he had a cold! We are to encourage our students to do a project based on how a project in Magic School Bus would take place....We want the students to take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy! (all while being very safe). So if you or your child is not familiar with the magic school bus i have a group of videos on the bottom of the page to help you along! Don't be afraid to get started! Best of luck to all of you...and Bus. DO YOUR STUFF!
Valentine's Day Fun!
This year to spread the love Powers has decided to send candy baskets to the local retirement home. We will be collecting candy until February 10th. After all the candy has been collected each class will be creating a themed basket to send to the lovely folks in the retirement home. The theme for our 2nd grade basket is Love Boat. We will be taking time in class to make these different boats and also making handmade cards to put in them...but we need your help to fill it with candy! So send candy along with your child by the 10th and we will put the baskets together!
